Shade Critters swimwear is designed with a comfortable, secure fit for swimming and active play. Fit may vary slightly by silhouette, fabric and design details, so we recommend reviewing the size chart and the information provided on the individual product page.

Use your child’s current measurements rather than relying only on age. Compare height, chest, waist and hip measurements with our size chart for the best fit.

If your child is between sizes, consider the style and preferred fit. Sizing up may provide additional room for growth, while the smaller size may offer a more fitted feel. For two-piece styles, chest, waist and hip measurements can be especially helpful.

Long-sleeve one-pieces, rash guard sets, tankinis and skirted swimsuits generally provide more coverage. Review the product photos and description for details about sleeve length, neckline, back coverage and bottom coverage.

All Shade Critters swimsuits are lined for comfort, coverage and durability. Lining construction may vary by style.

All Shade Critters two-piece swimsuit tops include removable modesty inserts in sizes 12 and 14.

UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. Fabric rated UPF 50+ blocks at least 98% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays from reaching the skin covered by the garment.

UPF clothing is an important part of sun protection, but exposed skin should still be protected with sunscreen and other appropriate sun-safety measures.

Shade Critters styles identified as UPF 50+ provide sun protection for the areas covered by the garment. Please review the individual product description to confirm the features of a specific style.

No. UPF swimwear protects only the skin covered by the fabric. Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen to exposed skin and follow recommended sun-safety practices, including reapplication, shade and protective accessories.

Long sleeves provide more fabric coverage than sleeveless or short-sleeve styles. A long-sleeve swimsuit or rash guard can be a helpful choice for beach days, pool time, boating, summer camp and other extended outdoor activities.

Always follow the care label inside the garment. To help preserve the fabric, color, shape and decorative details:

• Rinse promptly in cool, fresh water after swimming.
• Hand wash in cold water with a gentle detergent.
• Do not use bleach.
• Do not wring, twist or aggressively stretch the fabric.
• Lay flat or hang to dry away from direct heat.
• Do not tumble dry unless the care label specifically allows it.

Yes. Rinse swimwear in cool, fresh water as soon as possible after exposure to chlorine, salt water, sunscreen or perspiration. This can help protect the fabric, elastic and decorative details.

Hand washing is generally the gentlest option. If the garment’s care label permits machine washing, use cold water, a delicate cycle and a mesh laundry bag. Styles with fringe, tassels, beads, sequins or other decorative details should be handled with additional care.

Air drying is recommended. High heat can damage elastic fibers, affect the garment’s shape and shorten the life of the swimsuit. Always follow the instructions on the garment’s care label.

Avoid sitting or sliding directly on rough pool decks, concrete, rocks or textured surfaces. Use a towel when sitting, and take care around Velcro, jewelry and other items that may catch delicate swimwear fabric.

Allow the swimsuit to dry completely, then gently stretch and massage the affected area to help loosen the sand. Avoid harsh scrubbing or using sharp tools, which may damage the fabric.

Some sunscreens, self-tanners, oils and lotions may stain or discolor swimwear, particularly light-colored fabrics. Allow sunscreen to absorb before putting on the swimsuit, and rinse the garment promptly after use.

Contact customer service as soon as possible. We will make every effort to assist, but orders that have already entered processing or shipped may not be changed or canceled.
